Our family holiday to Lux* Belle Mare, Mauritius, was truly incredible. I wanted to share our amazing experience of what many would consider to be a honeymoon destination with you, from the perspective of a family of four, with two young boys aged 2 and 4.

Before travelling on 12th April, I had been keeping a close eye on the weather forecast, which I must say was pretty depressing, showing rainfall every day! I couldn’t believe it……just our luck! But the government weather forecast was much more accurate and in keeping with the trip advisor reviews of people, who had recently been there. The weather was great according to them.

I had arranged airport transfers with Taxis Mauritius and our driver was waiting for us outside arrivals. An hour later we arrived at the Lux* Belle Mare and as soon as we entered we knew that this was going to be a great week. Check in was so quick and we were greeted with cold flannels and welcome drinks. After our arrival photograph, we had a quick tour around the hotel and then were taken to our suite. We had kindly been upgraded to the Junior Ocean View Suite……and let me tell you, that view was breathtaking. Opening the blinds to that every single morning and stepping out onto the balcony to the view of paradise is what dreams are made of!

The room was perfect…..every thing was so well thought of. It was the perfect size for the four of us, with a sofa bed which was put out on the turn down service every evening. They had the cutest little dressing gowns for the boys as well as matching slippers, which they really loved.

The first day was the best. We arrived at the hotel at 1pm, quickly freshened up and made our way to the pool. After a couple of hours of soaking up the sun and splashing in the pool, we went back to our room, showered up and then we all snuggled up in the King-size bed in our matching dressing gowns and rested for a little while before getting dressed for dinner.

We opted for the buffet at Mixe for night one, which was definitely a great choice. They tend to have a theme most nights of the week and it was “meat night,” which was always going to be a hit with Kam. He was in charge of keeping the boys seated and entertained, whilst I plated up a selection of starters and mains for us to share. Even the boys, who are fussy eaters enjoyed the food at the “kids corner.” There is so much to choose from – Indian, Italian, Chinese, English and Mauritian dishes.

We were lucky enough to eat at all the restaurants, including the famous Amari by Vineet and Duck Laundry, which have fantastic and varied menus. (I will post another blog specifically about the restaurants very soon so sign up to my newsletter to get a notification when it’s up).

The waiters/waitresses at Mixe were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. From helping me take our plates to the table, to chatting to the boys and entertaining them. They also kept the drinks flowing. The whole evening was so enjoyable, jet lag was far from our minds, as we felt so relaxed. We then went and enjoyed the evening entertainment, which was a live band with singers. Rhys was unstoppable on the dance floor and even Maice had a little boogy!

The entertainment at K Bar was great every night, in fact. The biggest hit with the boys were the Sega dancers….they were fantastic and it was so much fun when they got us all involved with the dancing.

They even have an open-air cinema which we really wanted to take the boys to. However, on both of the evenings we had planned to do it, it didn’t work out for one reason or another. Never mind though, it’s another excuse to go back!

There is one main pool with plenty of sun loungers, however it does get busy so it’s a good idea to get there as early as possible. As we were having later nights, the boys slept for a bit longer in the mornings, so if we got to the pool at 10.30am onwards, it would be much more difficult to get poolside seating. However, it definitely wasn’t impossible as the lovely guys around the pool would work their magic somehow and we were never left without somewhere to sit.

We would quite often order our lunch to the sun loungers and it would come in these fantastic covered boxes. K bar was also a great option for lunch as was the food truck which did really good hot dogs.

It would have been lovely to actually sit on the beach but Maicen really didn’t like the sand touching his feet. We managed to get him there a couple of times but he wasn’t very keen. Rhys, on the other hand, loved the sand and would have happily played there for hours.

This was for children aged 3 -11 so Rhys wasn’t quite old enough to be left there alone but they were happy for him to stay and play if I sat outside. They did various activities throughout the day including arts and crafts. We went there a couple of times but because the boys didn’t really want to be separated, they didn’t go on any of the little trips they had planned including the glass bottom boat (which we did as a family anyway).

The Spa is a must at the Lux* Belle Mare, so much so that all four of us experienced it. Kam had at least 3 massages and I treated myself to one too. I opted for the promotional offer of an hours treatment consisting of a full body exfoliation followed by a 30 minute massage for approximately £70. The exfoliation left my skin feeling clean and soft and the massage, which was pretty much my whole body, was so relaxing. Usually it feels like the treatments are over before they’ve even started, but this hour felt as though it were 2 or 3 hours. Each individual treatment room was so clean and equipped with its own shower so after the exfoliation, I stepped straight into the shower, rinsed my body and then went back onto the clean couch for the massage.

I enjoyed it so much that we booked the kids massages for the boys on Maicen’s birthday. They had the cutest little set up. We were given cold flannels upon arrival at the spa and then taken through the to a treatment room where they started by washing the boys’ feet and then took them to the adjacent couches, where they essentially had a couple’s massage.

Rhys was initially a bit fidgety but within a couple of minutes of the massage, he rested his little head down and didn’t move an inch. The boys love their massages anyway and are always getting me to rub or scratch their backs so this was literally heaven for them. They both fell asleep 15 minutes into the massage because they were so relaxed and they stayed asleep even whilst being moved onto their backs to massage their fronts. It was so amazing to watch them and we would definitely do this again for them. It cost around £35 for 30 minutes for each of them.

We really wanted to make this family holiday extra special as it was Maicen’s fourth birthday. I had emailed the hotel before travelling and explained this to them and they honestly made it such a special day. From decorating the room with balloons and getting a special banner printed for him, to the birthday cake and even a special bubble bath, the staff at Lux Belle Mare really exceeded our expectations. It was a truly magical day.

There is so much to do at the Luxe Belle Mare, including horse riding, tennis, rum tasting, visiting the Tea House and Cafe Luxe. I could write pages and pages. I honestly can’t recommend this resort highly enough. If you are looking for pure luxury and great hospitality and kindness then this is the place for you. Nothing is too much for the staff here. They go above and beyond to make your stay the best it can possibly be. We had a wonderful time and made the most beautiful memories with our boys. It is the perfect destination for a family holiday.
